On Wednesday a man in his 60s was detained. Ms Van Der Stichelen had power of attorney over the man’s finances for several years now and there had been friction between her and the man. Other evidence appeared to put him in the frame and it was decided to arrest him. However, from the outset there were doubts as to whether the man was mentally or indeed physically capable of committing cold blooded murder and simply walking away quietly from the scene.

On Thursday a second man, the first man’s brother-in-law was arrested. His house was also searched and he was questioned by detectives.

In a short statement released on Friday morning the Examining Magistrate assigned to the case said that there was not enough evidence against either of the men and that they have been released. This means that after almost two weeks there are no suspects and no murder weapon has yet been found.
