VOLT is the new venue for clubbers in Brussels’ vibrant nightlife

Central Brussels boasts a new nightclub. VOLT opened in the Duquesnoystraat last Saturday. The club’s owners say its ambition is to provide a safe and inclusive environment and in addition to security guards you will always find a female member of staff at the door.

The club is located close to the central station, in the building that previously housed You, another club.  Brussels historic market square is only a few hundred metres down the road. At VOLT the focus is on "urban" music. The club's staff travelled across Europe to find inspiration.

Here female visitors should feel safe at all times. In addition to security guards, a female member of staff is always posted at the door. "I make sure everything goes well and if there is a problem people can come to me" she says.

It’s a measure taken in response to the 'Balance Ton Bar' movement, a movement that arose almost two years ago as women castigated unsolicited sexual approaches in Brussels nightlife. In response the City of Brussels too launched an action plan.

At the entrance of VOLT, there’s a sign with a clear message: "Please don't enter our club with symptoms of racism, homophobia, sexism or transphobia". VOLT does its best to be inclusive and welcomes everyone. On Fridays there is clearly a Parisian atmosphere, parties featuring hip-hop, R&B and afrobeat are staged on Saturdays, and on Sundays , it’s FLASH, a gay-friendly night.
