A driver in Leuven got the surprise of his life when he returned to collect his illegally parked vehicle. Construction workers had used concrete blocks to prevent the motorist from driving off. They told VRT they didn’t want the driver to have to cough up tow-away fees but wanted to make it clear parking illegally had hampered their work.
The motorist had ignored no parking signs and had parked his vehicle on an access road to a construction site. The construction workers, who hemmed in the vehicle with concrete blocks, say it’s not the first time this driver parks illegally on this spot and hampers their work.
“It would have been easier for us to call the police. That would result in tow-away fees of at least 250 euros, but we are not seeking a quarrel with the motorist and just wanted to issue a warning” one construction worker told VRT. “We hope he comes to talk with us and this doesn’t happen again”.
Leuven police were not really happy with the construction workers’ initiative. They would have preferred a call. If the driver couldn’t be contacted, the car would have been towed away.
