Due to Storm Ciarán pilots at Brussels Airports have been restricted to using only one runway for departing and arriving flights. As a result the airport can only process a score of flights every hour.
“It’s not a lot” says airport spokesperson Nathalie Pierard. Flights departing and arriving are currently subject to delays of around a quarter of an hour.
Windspeeds are expected to increase still further during the afternoon peaking between 1PM and 2PM. As a result it’s dangerous for passengers to use stairs to access or alight from aircraft. The difficulty will mainly affect Ryanair flights. Passengers using the covered passenger bridges into and out of aircraft won’t experience any such difficulties.
The impact of the storm in France and Germany means several flights have already been diverted to Brussels.
Flights from Antwerp and from and to Ostend are being diverted to Brussels.
