Belgium’s women beat European champions England last night in the second leg of a Women’s Nations League dual. The Red Flames as the Belgian women’s football team is called beat the European champions 3-2. The surprise result means Belgium jumps over England to take the second place in their group.
Belgium’s De Neve opened the scoring in the 9th minute, but Bronze soon equalised. Kirby provided England with a lead just ahead of halftime, but Belgium’s Wullaert secured 'player of the match' status equalising seconds before the halftime whistle went. In the final stages of the match it was also Wullaert who took Belgium into the lead.
This is the first time Belgium’s women succeed in beating England, the world’s deputy champions.
