The 9-year-old boy found the stolen safe in a nature reserve. Thomas immediately notified the police, who launched an investigation. To thank him Thomas and his brothers were then given a VIP tour of their local police zone.
Thomas found the stolen, open safe in early October while playing in a local nature reserve. "He immediately notified the police," says Jana De Roover, the spokesperson of Heist-op-den-Berg police. "We went to collect the safe and started an investigation. There were still jewels in the safe at the time of the find, but we cannot give more details at the moment. The investigation is ongoing."
"It is extraordinary that Thomas found the safe while playing in the bushes. It meant he was able to help the police with their investigation," says De Roover. "Apparently he is a big fan of the police, so to thank him, together with his mum and his brothers we gave him a VIP tour of our police station.
