The new virus bank has opened in Leuven (Flemish Brabant). The virus bank is an initiative intended to improve our preparedness for new epidemics.
PM De Croo, health minister Vandenbroucke and science secretary Dermine attended the opening. The coalition agreement brokered three years ago promised the setting up of the new bank. The new body possesses a collection containing tens of thousands of viruses as well as secure labs in which to study them.
