Belgian Foreign Minister to travel to the Middle East later this week

The Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib (Francophone liberal) is set to leave the Belgian economic mission in Australia on Wednesday evening and travel to the Middle East. The Belgian Foreign Ministry says that concerns about the humanitarian situation, a possible escalation of the conflict and for Belgian in Israel and the Palestinian Territories are the reason that Ms Lahbib is cutting short her stay in Australia.

The economic mission to Australia is due to end on Friday. However, Ms Lahbib will leave two days early. Before leaving Australia Belgium’s Foreign Minister will travel from Sydney to the capital Canberra for talks with her Australian counterpart Penny Wong and the Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell. She will then travel to Melbourne from where she will leave the mission and fly to the Middle East.

Further detail about Mr Lahbib’s travel planned are not being released for the time being.
