Collectif des Sans-Papiers Bénévoles Intégrés de Bruxelles (CSPBIB), an organisation that defends the interests of undocumented migrants in the Belgian and Flemish capital reports that once again migrants have occupied an empty building in Brussels.
On Sunday undocumented migrants took up residence in an empty hotel on Louisalaan. The hotel boasts 69 rooms and has been out of use for two years now.
The collective says it supports "vulnerable" people considering the current shelter crisis and with winter approaching. According to the organisation, empty buildings reflect the "immobility" of European reception policies: "There are too many empty buildings in Brussels. More than seven million square metres are empty."
The occupation is a legitimate way to put our demands on the map, says the organisation.
The collective is demanding simpler and faster regularisation procedures, based on clear criteria that are the same for everyone and at any time.
