A video on social media shows a parked car with a dummy behind the wheel. The effort was probably made to dodge a parking fine.
The footage was taken by a motorist passing by, and posted on TikTok. "Brussels in full splendour", the motorist comments on his discovery. "This person is a genious."
The dummy has probably been put there to mislead digital parking detection systems. In Brussels, cars with a scanning system roam the streets to check number plates. The smart system then calculates how long a car has been parked there. This helps police or parking fine companies to check the vehicles in question.
However, the scanning car also checks if there is somebody sitting behind the wheel. If so, the system will conclude the car is just standing there for a brief spell. It allows the system to reduce the error margin.
It is assumed that the dummy has been placed on the front seat for this particular purpose. However, this does not mean that the "trick" is successful.
