Originally, a company specialised in dredging, Jan De Nul diversified into large-scale construction projects some time ago. It is now a global player in the construction of artificial islands and the installation of off-shore wind farms. Now the company has embarked on the construction of the largest wind farm in the world. It is being built on the Dogger Bank, 130km off the British coast.

The blades of the turbines on the windfarm will reach up to 260 metres above sea level and are 107m. For the project Jan De Nul is using a large ship, the Voltaire, that was specially built for the installation of offshore wind turbines. The crane on the ship can lift up to 3,200 tonnes.

Once completed, the wind farm will comprise 277 wind turbines. It should be able to produce enough electricity to supply 6 million households in the UK or around 5% of all the electricity required by homes, public services and business in the United Kingdom.
