IT issues at the Belgian Rail company NMBS mean that incorrect information is currently being given on screens at railway stations across Flanders. The automated station announcements are also not correct. The IT issues first arose earlier this morning and it is not clear how long it will take to resolve them. Passengers can still get accurate information by logging on to NMBS’ website or the rail company’s app.
Incorrect information on screens and via automated station announcements due to IT issue at Belgian Railways
Normally, the screens at the station and the station announcements are passengers’ first port of call if they want to find out information about a delayed train of a change of platform. However, today (Monday) IT issues have meant that information provided through these tried and trusted channels is not accurate. NMBS’ Dimitri Temmerman told VRT News that "Platform changes that are announced are not correct and the information about the length of delay to a service does not always appear on the screen”.
"We are sure that this isn’t the result of hacking but are investigating the cause further. Once we have found the cause hopefully, we will be able to resolve the issue quickly", Mr Temmerman said.
Not all stations are being affected by the IT issues. "However, we are unable to say where the information is correct and where it isn’t”. The rail company says that it is doing all it can to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
“In the meantime, we are making additional announcements telling people that the information on the screens isn’t always accurate and they can best consult the online route planner. If they are unable to do this, they can always ask the staff on the trains or in the stations”, the rail company spokesman added.
