Meanwhile, the violence had led to both Brussels Airlines and the tour operator TUI cancelling its flights to Tel Aviv. One flight was due to leave today (9 October) and another on Saturday 21 October. Several other airlines have also cancelled flights to Israel that were scheduled for the next few weeks. Nevertheless, Tel Aviv Airport remains open and operational.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman Nicolas Fierens Gevaert told journalists that there will be no evacuation of Belgians as long as commercial flights are still operating in and out of Israel.

"We continue to monitor the situation closely”.
