The morning shift at the Audi Brussels car factory in Vorst didn’t start work on Monday morning. Union rep Grégory Dascotte of the socialist trade union ABVV said that workers at the plant are worried about announcements that might be made after an extraordinary meeting of the factory’s Work Council that is taking place this morning (Monday 9 October).

Mr Dascotte told VRT News that “There is a lot of concern among workers”. Meanwhile, Works’ Convener Ronny Liedts of the Christian trade union ACV said that he expects an announcement to be made regarding the production of the Q4 e-tron. Production of the Q4 e-tron is normally due to get under way at Audi Brussels sometime during the week of 1 November.
The Audi Q4, a mid-size electrically powered SUV has already been produced at Zwickau in the East of Germany for the past two years. Given the demand for the vehicle Audi announced the its Vorst factory would also start producing the Q4 from early November.
The extraordinary Works Council meeting could lead to changes around production volumes. After the Works Council meeting the management plans to hold mass meetings to inform staff of its decision. The fear is that what is to be announced won’t be good news. The afternoon shift is due to start work at 3pm. However, Grégory Dascotte says that “It is likely that they will not start work either”.
