The dispute at the Belgian air traffic control service Skeyes has yet to be fully resolved. A vote on a preliminary agreement that was to have taken place at a meeting between management and the trades unions on Wednesday was postponed as the members of three unions had not given their representatives a mandate to approve it.
Dispute at Belgian Air Traffic control still not resolved as vote on agreement is postponed
The liberal public sector union VSOA says that Management and the trade unions have agreed not to put the text to the vote today, but to resume negotiations in an attempt to reach an agreement that enjoys the support of Skeyes staff. There is no question of a new strike notice being is issued at Skeyes for the time being.
The Christian Trade Union ACV told VRT News that "We are going to continue negotiating in order to address some immediate issues”. The socialist public sector union ACOD says that negotiations between the unions and management will resume "as soon as possible" and that industrial action is currently not on the agenda.
Last month, the three trade unions issued a joint strike notice in protest against staff shortages and the high workload endured by those that work for Skeyes. On Wednesday a strike seemed to have been averted when unions and management reached a preliminary agreement. However, it now seems that the preliminary agreement is not enough for the unions’ rank and file.
