In June, a student went to the university's Counselor to file a complaint against a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The complaint concerned transgressive behaviour of a sexual nature on the part of the professor.

The university confirms that a disciplinary investigation is underway. The professor has been suspended for six months pending the results of the investigation. He is suspended not only from teaching duties at the university, but also from his work at the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) in Edegem (Antwerp Province). No complaint about the alleged sexual misconduct has been filed with has yet been filed with the police or the public prosecutor's office.

Gazet Van Antwerpen reports that rumors have been circulating about the professor in question for some time. The disciplinary board of the University of Antwerp will investigate the report of misconduct internally during the coming weeks and months and will then consider whether the professor’s suspension should be extended and whether any further sanctions should be taken.
