Police seize scooter from 16-year-old doing breakneck speed on Vilvoorde shopping street
Vilvoorde police caught the 16-year-old boy last Tuesday driving down the Leuvensestraat in Vilvoorde. He passed the police bike patrol on his electric scooter at breakneck speed. "The young man ignored our order to stop. A little later, he was stopped by our team," explains police spokeswoman Catherine Bodet.
The electric scooter was taken to the police station where it was put on rollers. There police discovered that the scooter could effortlessly reach 99 km/h. The scooter was confiscated, as scooters travelling faster than 25km/h are not allowed in traffic. "This makes that person a danger not only to himself but also to other road users. After all, the maximum permitted speed on scooters is 25km/h," says Catherine Bodet.
