A dog owner faces her day in court after police in Leuven (Flemish Brabant) issued charge sheets when they discovered she had left her dog locked up in her parked car in extreme heat.
Charge sheet issued to driver who left pet in car in sweltering heat
It was a concerned passer-by who called Leuven police to alert them to the poor canine’s predicament. The woman had left her dog in a carpark in Heverlee (Leuven) with all the windows hermetically sealed.
The police were eager to free the dog that was panting heavily and clearly in great distress as soon as possible as temperatures soared. Because the owner of the vehicle couldn’t be tracked down straight away and police were unable to open the vehicle themselves the help of a tow-away service was called in. Mechanics managed to open the car and liberate the canine from its sticky predicament.
Our lads in blue immediately gave the poor animal some water to drink. When the owner finally turned up her duty of care under the law was explained to her and charge sheets were issued.
