After a further scare yesterday fire-fighters seem to have gained control of the fire on the High Fens in eastern Belgium. Fire services remain vigilant. Damage on the ground is considerable. The fire started on Monday evening. Yesterday evening the provincial disaster plan had to be implemented, putting the governor at the head of the rescue effort, because the emergency services were failing to master the situation.
